Birthdays are so much fun to celebrate for everyone, especially the people receiving gifts and going to fun parties. There seems to be a lot of birthdays this time of
year, so a lot of people are having a lot of celebrations this month, which makes it a happy month. Our recent cold weather may be a slight damper on these celebrations, and I have to admit, I’m not liking the cold weather too much either.
I hope everyone has noticed the little caterpillars crawling around, that means spring is here and thus new little creatures to enjoy. There is a lot of blooming nature popping out of the trees and ground and let me tell you, it is a pretty upbeat time of the year for me. With
spring comes a great vacation we are all counting down for and that is summer!
First of all, birthdays are so exciting, but do you know the origin of celebrating birthdays? Birthdays actually go way back to the Greeks and Egyptians and were not happy celebrations, but a time for people to ward off evil spirits from the birthday person. So, birthdays have
become an exciting experience, but used to be a scary experience for whoever was unlucky enough to be advancing in age, which is everyone. Regardless of the history there is nothing better than getting gifts and having everyone recognize you for a day. So happy birthday to everyone who’s had
or are soon having one, be glad we don’t have to ward off evil spirits anymore.
The most exciting upcoming event is the slowly progressing summer weather, which isn’t really an event, but more a welcome change. The little bugs crawling around right now, mostly spiders, creep me out, but they eat the other creatures I don’t like to encounter so I’ll take the
good with the bad. Love bugs, in my opinion are wrongly named because they are always landing in my food or flying across my face. Plecia nearctica, their scientific name seems a lot more fitting, because it sounds like something to name an annoying bug. Watch out for fake insects, because I
was tricked by one a few weeks ago, I was in the garden looking at all the nice flowers when I spotted and pretty orange butterfly sitting on a plant, I was excited and thought it was real until I tried to touch it and realized that it was plastic, pretty embarrassing.
This is the best time of the year for going on long walks and checking out the newly bloomed live nature. I would recommend going for walks after four o’clock, because you could quite possibly end up with a nasty sunburn that your friends will not be envious of. Enjoy your birthdays and enjoy the
cool air before we get hit with a Houston wall of humidity!
