Telfair has won a Landmark Award from the Houston Business Journal, taking home top honors in the Residential Development category.
Last year, Telfair won the Landmark Award for “Best Land Deal.”
“Going from ‘best land deal’ to ‘best community’ in just one year is a wonderful and very telling sign of how fast Telfair has grown,” said Heather Gould, marketing director.
“Landmark projects are those that improve the look, feel and image of our city,” stated John Beddow, publisher of the Houston Business Journal. “The Landmark Awards give well-deserved acknowledgement to the developers, builders, architects, engineers and real estate professionals
who help improve the quality of our city for us all.”
Newland Communities acquired the 2,018 acres destined to become Telfair from the State of Texas in 2002. The land’s previous use as a state prison farm left a historic relic, the 1939 Central State Farm building, which has also made news recently. The Houston Museum of Natural
Science recently announced that its board voted unanimously to proceed with plans to transform the building into a satellite educational facility. The facility is planned to open in 2009.
