Student altercation leads to double shooting

Monday, between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., April 14, at the track finals at Hall Stadium, near Hightower High School, FBISD police responded to a student disturbance and escorted several students off school property.

About 9 p.m. that night, 17 year old Derrick Bass, a Willowridge student, was reportedly shot in the groin at the Shell Station located at 9955 Highway 6 near Vicksburg. During the same incident 18 year old Rainy Broussard was shot in the leg as she attempted to get into a friend’s car.

According to authorities, a destructive disturbance was occurring at the Shell Station at the time of the shootings. Friends drove both teens in separate vehicles to local hospitals for treatment.

According to police, witnesses to the shooting scattered just prior to their arriving on the scene. However, the shooter was known to many students and was identified to police.

Joshua O’Brian Morris a 17 year old Elkins High School student was arrested Monday, April 21, for the shootings. According to Missouri City police, he was identified by his “street name” which ultimately led to his arrest.

Morris has been charged with the aggravated assaults and has a bond of $200,000.
