Seguin Elementary students tour University of Texas

Fifth-grade students from Seguin Elementary took to the road one Saturday for a little exploring.

The “Explore UT Open House” at the University of Texas in Austin, March 7, gave the students an opportunity to taste life at a major university.

“UT boasts that it transforms lives,” said Tres Davis, UT graduate and Seguin Resource teacher. “We as teachers have the same mandate and we think this trip is a step down that path.”

Students learned about life on campus, seeing athletes, cheerleaders, Bevo, as well as representatives from the various colleges and programs. The trip included a visit to a classroom, where a professor told them about what could be expected in a university setting.

Davis said hearing many students talk about attending college made the trip even more worthwhile. Students also toured the Main Building (the Tower) and the State Capitol Building.
