An Amber Alert was issued yesterday afternoon after an elementary school age child did not return home from school.
According to Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel, 9 year old Amsal Dhuka went missing Monday afternoon after he got off the school bus at the stop in front of his apartment complex. Haenel said, “The Sheriff’s Office received the call from his father about 4:14 p.m., Monday afternoon, that Dhuka was missing.
The boy’s father told deputies that Dhuka was a student at Lakeview Elementary School in Sugar Land and that he had not yet returned from school. Immediately, deputies confirmed that the boy had been at school all day and they also knew he had made it back to the apartment complex bus stop. It was there that the trail went cold.
As a search for the boy began over 100 volunteers arrived to help as well as area law enforcement agencies. The searchers worked over night canvasing nearby neighborhoods. Early Tuesday morning about 6:20 a.m. a call came that indicated that Amsal Dhuka had been found safe at the Ismaili Muslim Center, located at 10501 Corporate Drive in Sugar Land. Officers went to the Center and picked up the boy.
The boy was reportedly with a woman who has been identified as Kismat Momin. She is a 34 year old woman who is known to both son and father, details past that are sketchy at press time. Momin was identified as a person of interest when it was determined that she was the last person to have been seen with him about the time he disappeared.
The Dhuka family and Momin both live in the Landmark Apartment complex near Chelsea Harbor off FM 1464.
Although the case has just begun, the good news is that the boy was found unharmed and apparently unaware that anyone was looking for him according to authorities.
At press time there were more questions than answers.
