Johnson Development’s acquisition of Cross Creek Ranch announced in April is a 3,200-acre master-planned community in what is termed the Katy sub-market. Families in the area currently are zoned to attend schools in the Katy Independent School District and reports indicate that the developing area will eventually also correspond to students attending the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.
Cross Creek Ranch at this time has approximately 700 homes and another 5,000 home sites are planned for development over the next 10 years. An estimated 200 acres have been set aside for retail, commercial and multi-family in the area, which will have its neighborhood a matter of minutes away from the Grand Parkway and the Westpark Tollway.
Reports indicate that a great degree of growth continues in Houston’s Energy Corridor which is close to Cross Creek Ranch. That is where there are more than 300 companies and 75,000 employees making the area the third largest employment center in the region. Over 300 acres of commercial property have been set aside for a mix of retail, restaurants, hotels, a convention center, a professional business park and urban and residential areas.
Johnson Development’s master-planned communities include Sienna Plantation and Riverstone in Fort Bend County, and the new, 700-acre, Imperial Development in Sugar Land at Highway 6 and U.S. 90A. This is the site of the former Imperial Sugar Company. This area also houses a new minor league baseball stadium, Constellation Field, which is across from the Sugar Land airport.
