With the opening of baseball season just around the corner, FBISD Austin High School Orchestra is proud to announce that they will be performing the National Anthem at Minute Maid Park for the Houston Astros’ second game of the season. The date is April 7, 2012; game time is 6:05 pm. AHSO was the first orchestra ever to play the Anthem for an Astros game, and the team is excited to have them back again for the 2012 season. It is an exciting time for the students, directors, and their families to showcase the talent of this award-winning orchestra.
In conjunction with this event, the Austin High School Boosters Association is holding a silent auction of 10 baseballs signed by former Astros players and personnel. The signatures are of Craig Biggio, Andy Pettitte, Larry Dierker, Art Howe, Mike Jackson, Kevin Bass, Anthony Young, Bob Watson, Jimmy Wynn and Phil Garner. The auction is now and will close at midnight on April 7. For more information or to bid, please go to www.flickr.com/photos/ahsorch2012/.
In February, AHSO once again surpassed their record by receiving a total of 198 first placed medals with 17 solos and 24 ensembles certified as eligible for All-State solo and ensemble competition in June.
A highlight of this year, the orchestra was invited to visit Salzburg, Austria by special invitation.
