Middle School students throughout Fort Bend ISD experienced a high-impact, energizing day of learning at the second annual Middle School PAL (Peer Assistance & Leadership) Conference, held at First Colony Middle School. This year’s theme was, “Taking Action Together.” The event gave eighth-grade PAL students the opportunity to take part in various motivational activities, led by renowned motivational speaker and success trainer. Aric Bostick.
Bostick and PAL sponsors welcomed students to the conference by forming a receiving line, where they extended “high-fives” to students as they entered the gym. Students then took part in line dances to get them energized and geared up for the day’s events.
During his address, Bostick shared stories of his experiences in junior high school. He reminded students that middle school years are not always easy, but that students will survive those years and grow up to be the people they are meant to be.
“I wasn’t always this handsome guy you see in front of you,” said Bostick, “but I learned to accept who I am and use my strengths to make friends. I challenge you to get out of yourself and make new friends. Learn to be a part of the team and acknowledge others. When you give of yourself, you receive the same in return.”
While the students were involved in their activities, the PAL sponsors took part in a leadership session to discuss best practices. Motivational speaker, Bill Moore, addressed the group and challenged teachers to stand up for doing what’s right and in the best interest of their students.
The Middle School PAL Conference Committee thanks the following sponsors for making the event possible: Fort Bend ISD, FBISD Student Support Services Department, Fort Bend Driving School, Kroger at West Airport, Sugar Land Methodist Hospital, Bowie Middle School PTO, First Colony Middle School PALS and PTO, Garcia Middle School PTO, Sugar Land Middle School PTA, Crockett Middle School PTA, Dulles Middle School, and Fort Settlement Middle School PTO.
