The Austin Bulldogs hope to start quick this year and let that momentum carry them to a playoff spot.

After starting 1-5 last year, Coach Dan Schreiber will be counting on his seniors for a better start this year. One of Austin’s key players will be Darius Milton, a two-way player at receiver and cornerback.

“Darius should be one of the better players in the district this year,” Schreiber said.

Milton likes playing both ways, and just loves playing football.

“I was really impressed with their winning program,” he said. “I look forward to just being in that atmosphere.”

The Bulldogs will be counting on Eric Townsend to excel in the secondary. He has been offered a scholarship by Texas Southern University.

“Eric is a physical cover man who can play both corner and safety,” Schreiber said.

All-District punter Antonio Robau returns and the versatile athlete is expected to play at several positions including tight end, wide receiver and linebacker.

Also playing major roles are All-District returnee full back Sebastian Castro, offensive lineman Connor Hillegiest, wide receiver Mark Garcia, quarterback Logan Murvany, defensive lineman Tyson Carter, and offensive lineman Husien Elesah.

Hillegiest (6-6, 275) will play right tackle this year.

“We like to run, and our line is really good at run blocking,” Hillegiest said.

The Bulldogs have more talent and more experience than last year, but will need to build momentum in the three pre-district games, as they open district play with Hightower and Kempner.
