In the spirit of the holiday season, the Austin High School Orchestra will present its Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 6, at 7:00 pm in the school’s auditorium, 3434 Pheasant Creek Drive, Sugar Land.
Directed by Carolyn Vandiver and John Law, the concert will feature a medley of holiday songs and moving renditions of “Overture to Messiah” by Handel, “Shabbat Shalom” by Susan C. Brown and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” by Tchaikovsky.
Refreshments will be sold prior to the concert, beginning at 6:30 pm and during intermission. The event is free.
The concert is made possible, in part, by funding provided by Fort Bend ISD and the Austin High Orchestra Booster Club. All proceeds from the event will support Austin’s orchestra program, which currently has 216 members enrolled in six orchestras, making it the largest school orchestra program in FBISD. Each orchestra level will be represented at the concert.
The AHS orchestra program has become known for its tradition of bringing quality music to the community – and has earned several top awards, including:
• Commended Winner in the Mark of Excellence/National Orchestra Honors project – AHS Symphony String Orchestra, directed by Carolyn Vandiver; and
• Texas Music Educators Association String Honor Orchestra Finalist, 2012-2013 – AHS Camerata String Orchestra
