Austin High School’s theatre department will represent Fort Bend ISD in Regional competition for its UIL one-act play after winning the Area competition on Saturday, April 14.
Under the direction of Bradly Cummons and Jennifer Minor, Austin High School (AHS) will present “The Imaginary Invalid” by Molière at San Jacinto College on Saturday, April 21. The play centers around a fearful but miserly hypochondriac who divides his time between summoning his doctor to care for his ailments and trying not to pay the resulting bills. The cast earned several awards at the Area level: Best Actor – David Herrera; All-Star Cast – Courtney Russell; and Honorable Mention All-Star Cast – Nora Hunt.
Other AHS cast members include Sathvika Ramachandran, Rachel Kossar, Bradley Smith, Ben Rauls, Nick Villalon, Cody Kenner, Kathryn Victory, Zack David, Benjamin Blumrick, James Baker, and Sarah Olivas. Crew members are David Norby, Valerie Chang, Alexis Mims, Sarah Hernandez, Skyler Underwood, and Zanira Ghulamhussain. Apprentices are Charlotte Harris and Lauren Olinger.
More than 200 schools entered in the 5A division, with only 24 schools now remaining. Two schools from the Regional contest will advance to the State competition held in Austin.
