Harris Health System is opening ten new clinics in 2014, and that means there will be over 100,000 square feet of empty wall space. However, Harris County Hospital District Foundation, which supports Harris Health, has accepted the challenge of filling the walls with art for these clinics. Moreover, the Foundation is calling on the community, including our neighbors in Fort Bend, to help, in a fun and exciting way, a Living Photography for Health Contest. Winning photographs will hang in Harris Health System’s multiple clinics and hospitals!
“We know there are many great photographers in Fort Bend, we know because we see them every day here at the medical center. The Texas Medical Center has over 120,000 employees and staff, and we understand at least 50,000 of them live in Fort Bend County. Some predict many more people than that come from Fort Bend every day to the Medical Center,” said Ruth Ransom, executive director, HCHD Foundation.
Ransom added, the grand prize winner will receive a monetary prize and the opportunity to exhibit 12 photographs for one month at Deborah Colton Gallery.
“Deborah Colton Gallery, on Kirby, Houston, is one of the most sought after galleries for artist to host exhibits, so this is a wonderful grand prize we are able to offer, along with Deborah Colton,” Ransom said.
The contest will be held, February 20, at J. P. Morgan Chase Blvd, 712 Main Street, Lobby, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. with judging at 7:00. Free to enter.
“Amateurs, professionals and student photographers are invited,” Ransom said.
From the court house in Richmond, to the contest site is 30.1 miles. Those who prefer not to make the drive, the good news is you do not have to be present to win, even though Ransom noted, she hopes to see Fort Bend residents at the contest.
“We hope our neighbors in Fort Bend do come, have a glass of wine and snacks with us, then after the contest take a walk though downtown Houston, it is beautiful in the evenings, make a date night out of ito. We would love for you to attend,” Ransom said.
Confirmed judges are Gina Gaston, News Anchor, ABC; Deborah Colton, Deborah Colton Gallery; renowned photographer, Sam Gainer; Ron Johnson and Lou Gould recently retired Harris Health System Executive, and others will be announced shortly, according to Ransome.
The photo categories are landscapes, animals, healthy foods or favorite places. No children or people please. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be for each category, and level, with and a grand prize overall winner.
