With municipal and school district elections coming up on May 6, the public will have several opportunities to meet and hear from candidates at upcoming forums.
Fort Bend ISD
The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce’s Education Division will host the Fort Bend ISD Candidates Forum on April 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the chamber office at 445 Commerce Green Blvd., Sugar Land.
Invited candidates include Jason Burdine and Lorenzo Angelo DeCamps for Position 1; KP George and Lorena Duenas for Position 5; and Kristin Tassin, Rodrigo Carreon and Shirley Rose Gilliam for Position 4. Early voting runs April 24 through May 2, and the election will be held on May 6.
Sugar Land City Council
The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce presents the City of Sugar Land District 4 Candidates Forum on April 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce. Hear from candidates Sean Burnett, Carol K. McCutcheon and Qaisar Q Imam as they discuss their plans to lead Sugar Land, District 4. The Aga Khan Council for the Southwestern United States will host the Sugar Land District 4 Forum on Saturday, April 22, at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center at 1700 First Colony Blvd., Sugar Land Doors open at 10 a.m. and the debate begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a free event that is open to all members of the community.
Stafford City Council
The 2017 Candidate Forum for the City of Stafford General Election will be held on Tuesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at the Stafford Civic Center, 1415 Constitution Ave. There is a four-way race for three spots on the Stafford City Council. Incumbents Virginia Rosas, Arthur “AJ” Honore’ and Wen Guerra are seeking re-ection and are being challenged by Lawrence Vaccaro Jr. The top three vote getters win. Mayor Leonard Scarcella is running unopposed.
Richmond, Rosenberg city councils
The Central Fort Bend Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee will host candidate forums for the City of Rosenberg and the City of Richmond from 6-7:30 p.m. at the George Memorial Library at 1001 Golfview Drive in Richmond. The Rosenberg forum will be on Wednesday, April 12, and the Richmond forum will be Tuesday, April 18.
