Early Tuesday morning, about 8 a.m., a single vehicle accident closed the underpass on US 90A between Richmond and Rosenberg after a driver careened out of control and ended upside down under the rail road tracks.
The accident caused the heavily traveled east/west bound artery through the twin cities of Richmond Rosenberg to be closed.
According to Richmond police department public information officer Master Sergeant Lowell Neinast, “The accident occurred in the 1700 block of Highway 90A (Jackson Street) under the railroad bridge, just before the Rosenberg city limits. “
The vehicle was traveling westbound on Jackson Street /US 90A when the driver hit the curb, lost control, ran up the nearby railroad trestle embankment and rolled over careening upside down onto the highway below. Neinast said, “The driver and passenger were transported to Oak Bend Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.”
After the accident had cleared, Sergeant Neinast said the Richmond Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that school is back in session and school zones are being enforced.
Although this accident did not occur in a school zone, students are walking to school in all areas for the next 9 months.
Now that school is back in session, remember, it is against the law to talk on a cell phone while driving through a school zone.
