As teenagers reach adolescents they may not understand what changes are happening with in their bodies. As parents, it’s important to talk with your children about these changes as well as other effects they may encounter growing up. Fort Bend ISD’s Volunteers and Partnerships Office is joining Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital and the University of Houston Victoria School of Nursing in presenting a free community conference, “Care 2 Chat.”
“Fort Bend ISD is proud to partner with Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital and the University of Houston-Sugar Land in presenting the Care 2 Chat Community Connect Conference,” said Pamela Shaw, FBISD Volunteers and Partnerships Coordinator. “By joining the hospital and university in this exciting event, we are able to extend our offerings beyond our school district and provide a greater venue of sessions and vendors from which the community can benefit.”
The four-hour conference will give community members the opportunity to take part in a variety of informative sessions presented by area professionals on topics such as:
• “School Transitions – Now What Do We Do?”
• “Hang 10 – Internet Safety beginning with 10 Basic Rules”
• “Child in Sports? – A guide to Sports Medicine Injuries”
• “Allergies and Asthma”
• “Eating Healthy is NOT Expensive”
• “Understanding and Motivating the Underachieving Child”
As a convenience to participants, a limited number of sessions will be available in Spanish.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the University of Houston-Sugar Land, located at 14000 University Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479. Also part of the conference includes free health screenings- blood pressure, glucose and bone density, a free breakfast, and door prizes given away (including an Apple iPad donated by Memorial Credit Union). The event is free but registration is required. Call 713.222.CARE to register.
Space for the conference will be limited to the first 500 people to call and register for the event. More information regarding registration will be forthcoming via the FBISD website at www.fortbendisd.com.
