Christmas came early for 1,500 needy children in Fort Bend County who received new toys through Second Mile Mission Center’s Gifts of Love Toy Drive the week before Christmas. Partnering churches Sugar Creek Baptist Church, Sugar Grove Church of Christ, Parkway United Methodist Church and First Assembly of God in Rosenberg held eight private celebrations to distribute the donated Christmas gifts.
“The response from the community to the toy drive was so generous, that even more children than we originally planned will be blessed,” said Second Mile’s Executive Director, Sarah White. Toys donated after the eight events were held are being distributed by partnering organizations to families in west Fort Bend County, Third Ward and Fifth Ward in the days leading up to Christmas.
Second Mile has no affiliation with The Second Mile charity founded by the former Penn State coach in recent news reports. An independent nonprofit, the Mission provides spiritual counseling and basic physical needs such as food, clothing and household items to an average of 40 to 45 families a day.
