CIVIL SERVANT: Meadows Place Police Corporal Yonathan Mezegabe
How did you become interested in law enforcement? Growing up in Germany and observing German police had a huge impact on me and my desire to become a police officer.
Have you always wanted to work in law enforcement? Yes, since a little kid. After almost 10 years in corporate America I decided to follow my dream of being in Law Enforcement.
Are you from Fort Bend County? If not, where are you from originally? Do you live in Fort Bend County now?
No, I was born and raised in Germany and also grew up next to the City of Meadows Place. I currently live in Sugar Land.
You rose to the rank of Corporal quickly. How were you able to make that happen?
Well I am fortunate to work with great officers and administrators who have helped guide me and allowed me to grow and to improve as a police officer. If it wasn’t for their support and guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What is the most rewarding thing about working in law enforcement?
The feeling that I’m making a difference in helping my community to be a better and safer place. Also the great relationships I have been able to develop among my law enforcement peers.
What are your long-term goals in law enforcement? Do you plan to study in Meadows Place or work for a larger department?
I absolutely plan on staying at Meadows Place P.D. I believe it is one of the best kept secrets in Fort Bend County. We are well compensated as well as have great leadership and amazing support from our City Council and Administrative Staff all the way down to our patrol supervisor and patrolman levels. I feel very blessed to be working with such a great group of officers.
What do you enjoy doing away from law enforcement? I spend quality time with my family and friends. I enjoy the friendships that I have made in Law Enforcement as well as in the greater community.
