Greg Jerkins creates behind-the-scenes success, and he enjoys having the opportunity to do that for the students and employees of Stafford Municipal School District.
“I like being in a position to help people – it provides a sense of fulfillment,” said Jerkins, Stafford MSD’s Transportation Supervisor. “Our role is part of the puzzle to help kids get an education.”
Jerkins, 45, joined Stafford MSD in 2013 as a bus driver. In his first year with the district, he was named Stafford MSD Bus Driver of the Year out of more than 20 bus drivers.
“We have a lot of bus drivers worthy of consideration,” Jerkins said. “It was an honor and a surprise.”
Jerkins was promoted to Transportation Supervisor. His role includes making sure all of the bus routes are covered on a daily basis, and providing buses for field trips. He collaborates with the Maintenance Department to ensure that all of the district’s vehicles are in good working condition.
If there’s a day when a driver is ill or unable to come to work, Jerkins will drive that driver’s route for the day.
“Greg has been a great inspiration to the Operations Department with proven positive attributes to his team,” said SMSD Interim Operations Director Jaci Phenix. “I can strongly say Greg promotes the department’s motto of dependability and familiar on a daily basis and the drivers respond to his leadership in many outstanding ways. Morale is great in the department and I see teamwork and bonding together with the drivers. It is definitely an honor to work with such a great person and I have a great deal of respect for his work ethics and guidance at the Transportation department.”
Jerkins has lived in Fort Bend County since the early 2000s. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1994 with a degree in Engineering Technology, with an emphasis in Telecommunications.
The Somerville native worked in the telecommunications industry, before joining the public school system. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and keeping up with the Dallas Cowboys.
