On December 10, 40 cadets from William P. Clements High School assisted in the placing of fresh wreaths on over 31,000 gravesites at the Houston National Cemetery. The cadets have been selling wreaths throughout the school year.
This is the first year the cadets participated in this honorable occasion and they contributed over 600 wreaths. While selling wreaths in front of Gerlands’ and Wal-Mart, the cadets had the privilege of meeting and talking to several veterans who shared their military experiences. This correlates with the Wreaths Across America mission statement “Remember, Honor, Teach”.
Cadet Alex Lee, a 9th grader in the Unit, placed a wreath on his grandfathers’ grave, a World War II Navy veteran. Even though it was a chilly morning in Houston, the cadets all agreed it was an awesome ceremony and event. The cadets are already discussing ways to increase their wreath sales for next year.
