Colony Bend Elementary School celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The first public school in First Colony, Colony Bend Elementary opened its doors on August 31, 1981 to 618 students and only 25 teachers.
Many changes have taken place at Colony Bend throughout the years. The school has had five principals, with Dr. Ray Hassett serving as its first and Sue Sierra as the current principal. The school’s mascot changed from the original Pioneers to the American bald eagle.
To mark its 30th anniversary, Colony Bend will host a two-day celebration, beginning on Thursday, October 20 with a morning parade around the campus. On the evening of October 20, the school will host a reception, beginning at 7:00 pm in the school’s cafeteria, for all current and former members of the Colony Bend Elementary family (including students, administrators, staff, and community members). Festivities will continue for students on Friday, October 21, as they take part in several fun activities (such as bounce houses and games) throughout the day.
Colony Bend Elementary School is located at 2720 Planters Street in Sugar Land. For more information about the anniversary events, please call, 281-634-4080.
