Republicans, Democrats and Tea Party members of Congress remain locked in a debate on whether the national debt ceiling should be raised before the Aug. 2 deadline.
Tyler Nelson, District Director for the Office of Congressman Pete Olson, District 22, is scheduled to present at the Central Fort Bend Chamber Alliance’s July 27 Governmental Affairs Department meeting. Nelson will provide information and answer questions about the debt ceiling debate. The meeting, which will be at the Chamber office at 4120 Avenue H in Rosenberg, will start at 8:30 a.m.
The current national debt ceiling – the legal limit on borrowing by the federal government – is $14.3 trillion. If the ceiling is reached, borrowed funds would not be available to pay bills and the United States might be forced to default on its debt obligations.
The meeting is open to the public. Please RSVP to Jeremy Heath at 281-342-5464 or jheath@CFBCA.org.
The Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Department meets the fourth Wednesday of every month at 8:30 a.m. at the Chamber office. Its purpose is to maintain enhanced communications with local, state and national representatives and governmental agencies in order to serve the business community and protect the present and future economy of Fort Bend County. For more information on the Chamber or the Governmental Affairs Department, call 281-342-5464.
