Most people’s thoughts of improving their health often center on diet and exercise—both excellent avenues toward achieving good health. Persons with diabetes sometimes face additional challenges in their quest for healthy living. They will have a special opportunity to learn how to help manage their disease through proper diet and nutrition.
“Cooking Well With Diabetes,” a 4-lesson series, will include classes on carbohydrates and sweeteners, reducing fat, reducing sodium and increasing fiber, and holiday meal preparation with diabetes in mind. This series, sponsored by Texas AgriLife Extension Service – Fort Bend County will be held at Texas AgriLife Extension Service Office Annex, 1402 Band Road, Rosenberg, 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons (August 28 and September 4).
Health/nutrition educator, Dianne Gertson RD, LD will present information and have available educational materials on class topics. Participants will prepare several healthy dishes at each session. The cost of the series is $20 per person and will include handouts and tasting of the dishes. This series is specifically for persons with Type 2 Diabetes and/or their caregivers, although others are welcome to participate. Interested persons may register by contacting Jacque Gerke at 281-342-3034.
