Dorothea passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital after a brief illness. Dody was survived by her children, Christopher and Susan, as well as her grandchildren, Maceo, Joshua, Christopher, Alyson and Savannah and her great-grandson, Brandon, as well as a host of others who loved her deeply.
Dorothea was born on July 29, 1921 in Romford, Essex England to Lazarus Seraphim Polychroniadis and Hilda Alice Ross and was preceded in death by her siblings Gene, Olga and Peter. Dody served her country during World War II by enlisting in the Women’s Royal Naval Service, an auxiliary of the British navy, and served in the underground war room with Winston Churchill. After the war, she worked at the British Embassy in Washington D.C., it was there that she met and later married Emery Harold Carter, Jr., a Lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
Dody had just celebrated her 90th birthday in the loving embrace of friends and family who traveled from around the world in order to share this special occasion with her. Dorothea will subsequently be returned to Great Britain and her beloved Capel Nelmes family estate to permanently reside.
