When Drabek Elementary School students return to school in August, they will enjoy a Houston Rockets Reading Corner in their school’s library. The reading space was recently updated with new furniture the school received as one of their rewards for being named champion of the Rockets “Read to Achieve” Program. This year, students at Drabek read a total of 2,048,846 minutes during the five-week program, making them back-to-back champions after winning last year’s program as well.
The Rockets partnered with the University of Phoenix, Houston Campus to provide furniture for Drabek’s library. During a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, the school received a wooden Rockets “Read to Achieve” table, four matching chairs, four stools, two bean bag chairs, two blankets, and a cotton throw for students to enjoy. As the program winner, the school also received 2,500 free books, 75 tickets to a Rockets game, and 75 Rockets t-shirts that will be raffled off in the future.
