The summer months have been an ideal time for students to learn new and exciting things through the Bilingual and ESL (English as a Second Language) Summer School program at Drabek Elementary School. Throughout the eight-week session, the students have taken part in numerous enrichment activities to improve their language and social skills.
On one occasion, the students welcomed firefighters from the North East Fort Bend County Volunteer Fire Department for a fire safety presentation. Students were given the opportunity to explore safety equipment, ask questions of the firefighters, and receive a tour of an actual fire truck.
School wide parades were also featured events during the summer program. The students celebrated their love of reading with a Literacy and Book parade, where they joined their teachers in dressing as their favorite storybook characters.
Students also recited self-written poems before an audience of parents, and school and district administrators. Their most recent parade celebrated the Fourth of July holiday. Students demonstrated their patriotism and respect for the red, white and blue as they marched around the campus carrying flags and balloons.
