A total of 56 pounds of medication has been safely disposed of after a successful “Take Back” day in Missouri City. The Police Department partnered with Drug Enforcement Administration Agents on Saturday, Sept. 29 in the nationwide campaign to properly dispose of unused and unwanted drugs.
“The program aims to promote community awareness of the public health crisis, to combat illegal use of pills and to provide a place for proper disposal of medications,” Capt. Brandon Harris said. “Our goal is to encourage residents to get rid of the drugs and to talk with their families and friends about the dangers of drug abuse.”
Drugs that are flushed down toilets pollute the water supply and pills that are thrown in the trash can be stolen.
And, year-round, a prescription drug Drop Box is located in the Police Department Lobby, 3849 Cartwright Rd., for the safe disposal of medications.
