The VIPS team at Elkins High School is joining thousands of communities across the country in celebrating PTA Teacher Appreciation Week this May 2-6.
The special week honors the dedicated men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating children. The parent volunteers that make up the VIPS team at Elkins are planning various appreciation events as part of a national effort to call attention to the outstanding contributions made by teachers each and every day.
“Experts have concluded that giving teachers the status and recognition they deserve as professionals is the best way to improve education in this country,” said Jo Anne Johnson, VIPS Coordinator at Elkins. “The teachers at Elkins are exceptional, and we should recognize that there is a great deal of hard work that goes into being a teacher.”
The following are some of the activities planned by Elkins’ VIPS to honor teachers:
• Teacher-of-the-Day – both students and staff will vote for their “Best Teacher” and the top 5 will be honored and recognized each day of the week. These winners will also receive gift baskets along with a balloon bouquet donated by HEB.
• Teacher Appreciation Luncheon – VIPS will be helping to provide and serve lunch to the staff on Friday, May 6. Potato bar, desserts, and drinks will be donated by VIPS and Brookstreet Bar-B-Que.
• Gift Baskets and Gift Cards provided by various businesses, such as Kona Grill, Centercourt Pizza & Brew, and Memorial Hermann Wellness Clinic and Spa, will be given out for prizes during the luncheon.
The Elkins High School VIPS are honored to be serving an incredible staff and truly appreciate the extraordinary efforts of the Elkins’ teachers.
