So far 28 Republicans have filed the official papers to run for various offices in 2012. “The Fort Bend Star” is profiling the candidates who are running. This week we devote coverage to the candidates running for Fort Bend County Sheriff, Constable, County Commissioner, Justice of the Peace, County Attorney and Tax Assessor. Next week we will profile the Democrats.
Fort Bend County Sheriff (R)
Kenneth “Craig” Brady has been the chief deputy of the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office for the past 12 years. Brady has 32 years of law enforcement experience.
John Minchew has over 30 years of law enforcement and security experience. He is currently the president and CEO of Secure One Security and Investigation Services, Inc. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army Military Police and the U.S. Air Force Security Police.
Troy E. Nehls has been the Fort Bend Constable in Precinct 4 since 2004. He is a U.S. Army reserve veteran and served two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan where he earned two Bronze Star medals.
Billy Frank Teague has 41 years in law enforcement. He has worked for the Irving Police Department, the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Richmond Police Department.
Constable, Precinct 1 (R)
AJ Dorr, the incumbent, was elected in 1996. He has several decades in law enforcement including positions with the Houston Police Department and as Chief of Police in Needville.
Daryl Segura is an officer with the Rosenberg Police Department. A native of Richmond, Segura has also worked for the Houston Police Department and spent13 years with the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Department.
Constable, Precinct 3 (R)
Rob Cook, the incumbent, has 28 years of law enforcement experience. He is running unopposed.
Constable, Precinct 4 (R)
Don McCall is a sergeant in the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. He has lived in Fort Bend County for 20 years.
Trever Nehls is a supervisor with the Sugar Land Police Department. He is a military veteran having served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is the twin brother of Troy Nehls the current Pct. 4 Constable.
County Commissioner Precinct 1 (R)
The Precinct 1 County Commissioner’s GOP race has drawn four candidates Tom Aitchison, Mike Baldwin, Bruce Fleming and Manny Reyes. The winner will face incumbent Democrat Richard Morrison. Precinct 1 covers the southern half of Fort Bend County.
County Commissioner Precinct 3 (R)
W. A. “Andy” Meyers has been the County Commissioner in Precinct 3 since 1996. Precinct 3 serves the northern most part of Fort Bend County. He is running unopposed in the primary.
Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, PL 1 (R)
Incumbent Gary D. Janssen will be facing Gregory A. Thompson.
County Attorney (R)
Roy L. Cordes has been the Fort Bend County Attorney since 2007. He is running unopposed in the primary.
Tax Assessor (R)
Patsy Shultz has been the Fort Bend County Tax Assessor since 2004. She is running unopposed in the primary.
