The Fort Bend Medical Society Alliance hosted its “Red Ties & Rubies” WATCH Preview Party on February 3 that welcomed business and communty members for an evening of entertainment and networking to help spread awareness of the roles the Alliance and Fort Bend ISD School Health Advisory Committee play in promoting WATCH Week.
Held annually in March, WATCH Week is devoted to teaching students about the five risk factors (Weight, Activity, Tobacco, Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure) for heart attacks and strokes. The Fort Bend Medical Society Alliance has partnered with FBISD for the past 10 years in promoting the campaign throughout FBISD schools.
Held at Sterling McCall Lexus, the WATCH Preview Party included live music provided by the HeartStrings string ensemble, raffles, giveaways and games. Guests were also encouraged to wear red ties and rubies to support heart health and WATCH Week.
“The preview party served as the perfect vehicle in thanking all of the vendors and sponsors who contribute to our efforts to promote WATCH Week,” said Nomita Bajwa, president of the Fort Bend Medical Society Alliance. “It also provided a fun and friendly atmosphere in which area community health leaders could network.”
The event was one of two major events held to promote WATCH Week. The Alliance also joined FBISD in hosting the 5th annual WATCH your Wellness Health Fair, which was held March 3 in Sugar Land Town Square. The health fair offered participants more than 50 booths offering health information, give-aways, health screenings and entertainment.
