After I made a plea to the school board (on 6/13/11)that they should not raise taxes this year, particularly since this is the worst economic recession in all of our lifetimes, I knew they would vote to raise taxes anyway……and they did (minus the two holdouts who voted FOR the taxpayers, Mr Baab and Mr Albright).
What really stood out was the board’s demonstration of their unwillingness to show the taxpayer that they can make good faith cuts in expenditures , particularly where it concerns non-teaching administration costs. When Mr Albright made a motion to take the $391,000 saved from a recent dissolution of two administrators on the payroll, and apply it to the general fund (apart from the administration budget), they balked and did not take bold action to show their support of lessening a top heavy administration by voting against that motion.
We taxpayers get the feeling this board expects all other government levels to suck it up except for them. Their incurring heavy debt in the recent past and the resultant debt service eating up their tax revenue still does not impact them into taaking the steps you and I have to take in this bad economy. Watch them! They are hellbent on keeping FBISD from any realistic belt tightening.
