The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Charles Dupre as Superintendent of Schools for the state’s seventh largest school district. Dupre will officially assume the duties of Fort Bend ISD Superintendent on April 29.
Dupre, 51,had been the Superintendent of Pflugerville Independent School District near Austin since 2006. Before that he was the Associate Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer at Fort Bend ISD.
During his 11-year tenure in Fort Bend ISD, Dupre was responsible for an annual budget that exceeded $500 million as student enrollment grew around 40,000 to more than 60,000. During that same period the district opened more than a dozen new school buildings.
“I don’t have the words to express how excited I am to be coming back to Sugar Land and to a district that I am so familiar with,” Dupre said in an interview with the “Star” in March. “I am thankful for my years in Pflugerville.”
Under Dupre’s leadership, Pflugerville ISD increased graduation rates and improved educational outcomes for all students. PISD board members credit him with creating a spirit of cooperation among board members, parents, teachers and students.
“He put in place processes and systems that have been invaluable as we have grown from a small to a medium sized district,” said PISD board president, Elva Gladney. “He helped us come together as a board and as a district.”
One of those systems Dupre implemented at PISD involved forming a committee made up of various district stakeholders to provide input during the budgeting process.
“The committee helped develop priorities for the budget and it led to a more thorough process,” Dupre said. “It also led to increased transparency which pleased the parents and community and in addition our staff engagement improved.”
Dupre was named Region 13 Superintendent of the Year in 2012, and was recognized by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) as one of the top five finalists for Texas Superintendent of the Year. The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce in 2012 named Dupre Superintendent of the Year in recognition of his efforts to improve college and career readiness rates through the strategic allocation of resources and innovative instructional programming.“We are delighted that Charles is returning to our school district and strongly believe we have made the right choice in asking him to serve as our next superintendent,” said Jim Rice, Fort Bend ISD Board President.
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Dupre was raised near Springfield, Missouri. He received his BBA with a major in Accounting from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, and Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Houston. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in educational leadership at Lamar University in Beaumont. Dupre is a Certified Public Accountant.
Dupre and his wife, Seeju, are the parents of two sons and a grandson.
