On October 20, Fort Bend ISD schools will join schools throughout the area in observing the 12th annual Lights On Afterschool Day, sponsored by the Greater Houston Lights On Alliance. The Alliance partnering with the Texas Partnership for Out Of School Time and area school districts in celebrating the afterschool programs that keep our kids safe, inspire them to learn and help working families.
FBISD’s Extended Day Programs at 18 elementary schools will host various activities during their afternoon programs. Participating will be Armstrong, Barrington Place, Briargate, Drabek, Jones, Jordan, Meadows, Mission Bend, Mission Glen, Mission West, Oakland, Pecan Grove, Quail Valley, Ridgegate, Ridgemont, Sugar Mill, Townewest and Walker Station Elementary Schools.
Lakeview Elementary School’s Extended Day Program will take part in the citywide event, from 3:45 pm to 5:30 pm at the Houston Texans YMCA, located at 5205 Griggs Road in Houston. Lakeview students will join approximately 250 youngsters in helping build a human light bulb to commemorate the event.
The E. A. Jones “Dragons on the Move” After-school Program will also present its “Lights on Afterschool” Open House event on Thursday, October 20, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the school (located at 302 Martin Lane in Missouri City). Program coordinators invite guests to come and experience first-hand the varied activities that the E.A. Jones After-school program provides to youth in the community. The event will include a vendor fair, health screening, financial planning and more!
Students enrolled in the after-school program will also showcase their talents in art, dance, and reading through a video presentation of recent projects they completed in the program.
