The Fort Bend ISD Police Department hosted a delegation of 20 Vietnamese National Police Officers as part of an International Police Exchange Program offered through the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas at Sam Houston State University. The event gave FBISD police officers the opportunity to share some of their best practices with the delegation, while improving international relationships among members of the police force.
FBISD Police Chief David Rider (in the company of officers Buddy Boone, Larry Brown, Alan Hoang, and Russell Walton), gave an overview of the school district and explained how the FBISD Police Department works to provide a safe and secure learning environment for students. Rider also presented the visiting officers with FBISD police badges, making them honorary FBISD police officers for a day.
The delegation also toured the FBISD Police Building, and received hands-on training on the Laser Shot shooting simulator. Following a lunch at Spring Creek Barbecue, the Vietnamese delegation also visited Clements High School to meet with a Vietnamese student group to discuss the role of the campus police officer from the students’ perspective; and Crockett Middle School to learn about the District’s Crime Stoppers program and how students and police work together to keep our schools safe.
In the past, FBISD police have hosted international police delegations from China and Poland.
