Fort Bend ISD is proud to announce that Rahul Nagvekar, an eighth-grade student at Quail Valley Middle School’s GT Academy, was named winner of the 2012 National Geographic Bee, held May 24 in Washington, D.C.
Rahul advanced to the national competition after winning the Texas State Geographic Bee in April. Hosted by Alex Trebek of “Jeopardy,” the national competition welcomed finalists from 10 states Texas, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, California, Utah, Arizona, Wisconsin, Maryland and Minnesota.
Students matched their wits against each other by answering geography questions and analyzing world maps and climate charts. Rahul was named winner after successfully answering the question: What Bavarian city on the Danube River served as the legislative seat of the Holy Roman Empire from 1663 to 1806? Answer: Regensburg.
As winner, he received a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership to the National Geographic Society and a trip to the Galápagos Islands.
