In June, the University Branch Library’s “Monday Night Movies at the Library” series finds adventure. Each week’s movie night features a different film. The movies begin at 6:00 pm every Monday in June, and will be shown in the Small Meeting Room of the University Branch Library, located at 14010 University Blvd. in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.
The first movie of the month will be shown on Monday, June 4. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this animated movie is based on a popular series of books written by Hergé about a fearless young reporter and his canine side-kick, Snowy. The reporter’s purchase of an old model ship from a market stall begins a whirlwind adventure that lands him in Morocco, in the midst of a 300-year-old mystery about a hidden treasure. This movie is rated PG.
On Monday, June 11, the movie to be shown combines elements of action, comedy, and fantasy in portraying the life of a young self-absorbed, unemployed hipster who is coasting along in his carefree life until a shrill, unlikeable delivery girl named Ramona roller-blades into his world. Before he can go out with her, he must prove himself by defeating the league of seven ex-boyfriends who control her love life. This movie is rated PG-13.
The film on Monday, June 18, is the fourth in a pirate-adventure series featuring Captain Jack Sparrow. In this movie, Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past, and he’s not sure if it’s love or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. This movie stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Ian McShane, and is rated PG-13.
On Monday, June 25, enjoy a romantic sci-fi thriller starring Matt Damon as an ambitious politician who is on the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, when he meets a beautiful ballet dancer. Just as he realizes he’s falling in love with her, mysterious men – agents of Fate – conspire to keep the two apart. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path, or risk everything and defy Fate to be with her. This movie is rated PG-13.
