During Fire Safety Awareness Week, Drabek Elementary School welcomed fire fighters from the Fort Bend County Fire Marshall’s Office and the Northeast Fort Bend County Fire Department to visit with students and remind them of fire safety rules.
V.T. Cooper, Fort Bend County Fire Marshall, and Kim Herring, Investigator/Inspector, met with students in the school’s gym to discuss fire safety procedures. Herring kept students actively engaged in the presentation as she explained when to call 911 for emergencies, the importance of holding regular “Exit Drills In The Home” (EDITH), and developing floor plans of their homes to pinpoint exit routes and a meeting place where fire fighters can locate family members in the event of a fire.
Fire Chief Rick Duplant of the Northeast Fort Bend Volunteer Fire Department, joined Chief Investigator Robert Baker and Fire Fighter Travis Baxter in reviewing fire safety rules and explaining the type of equipment and gear used by fire fighters during emergencies.
They also led students on a tour of their fire truck before being called away to an actual emergency.
