Fort Bend Cares is accepting grant applications from charitable organizations. The application deadline is Feb. 29, 2012. The application form is available on the Fort Bend Cares website, www.fortbendcares.org. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have 501©3 status and provided services to children or youth in Fort Bend County.
Fort Bend Cares is a charitable foundation founded in 2004 by longtime residents of Fort Bend County who recognized the growing needs of disadvantaged area youth. The foundation gives monetary grants to nonprofit organizations that support children’s and youths’ physical, health, educational, recreational and emotional needs, with an emphasis on grants funding specific projects/programs or capital expenditures. Since its inception, Fort Bend Cares has bestowed grants totaling more than $720,000.
Grant recipients in 2011 included Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boy Scouts of America, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, Breath of Life Children’s Center, Casa de Esperanza de Los Ninos, Mamie George Community Center, Cinderella/Cinderfella Project, Communities in Schools, CSTEM Teacher and Student Services, DePelchin Children’s Center, East Ft Bend Human Needs Ministry, ESCAPE Family Resource Center, Ft Bend Rainbow Room, Ft Bend County Child Advocates, Ft Bend County Women’s Center, Ft Bend Family Health Center, Ft Bend Family Promise, Ft Bend Lawyers Care, Ft Bend Regional Council on Substance Abuse, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, Houston Museum of Natural Science – Sugar Land, Memorial Hermann Foundation, Men for Change, Parks Youth Ranch, Pooh’s Panda Special Needs Academy, S.I.R.E., Soaring Eagles Ministries, Texana Center, and the YMCA of the Greater Houston area.
The foundation generates its funding from individual and corporate donations, as well as annual fundraising activities. Tickets and sponsorships for the Feb. 11“Road Trip to RIO” which will be held at Fluor Corp. and the April 24 golf tournament are now available on the foundation’s website. Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital is the presenting sponsor for the fabulous Road Trip to RIO!
