Fort Bend County Health & Human Services is pleased to announce its collaboration with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the free and private social network for neighborhoods, to further engage in protecting the health and safety of communities, with the help of residents.
This integration with Nextdoor will enable Fort Bend County Health & Human Services to communicate online with Fort Bend County neighborhoods. Residents and Fort Bend County Health & Human Services’ personnel will be better able to work together to increase health safety and disease prevention awareness and strengthen community preparedness through timely alerts.
“Fort Bend County Health & Human Services has the responsibility of notifying residents of immediate and long-term health risks and events as well as responding to residents’ inquiries,” said Fort Bend County Health & Human Services Director, Dr. M. desVignes-Kendrick. “Many of the residents in our coverage area live in subdivisions, and the Nextdoor collaboration is a good fit for our agency and the residents we protect.”
With Nextdoor, Fort Bend County residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets.
Fort Bend County Health & Human Services will be better able to share helpful information with Nextdoor members, such as important health alerts, disease outbreaks, public health emergency notifications, health safety precautions and tips, details for HHS events, and updates on any public health activity affecting the local area, to Nextdoor websites within Fort Bend County. However, Fort Bend County Health & Human Services will not be able to access, nor does it wish to access, residents’ websites, contact information, or private or neighborhood specific conversations.
Nextdoor is free for residents and Fort Bend County Health & Human Services. Each Fort Bend County neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password-protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.
