Fort Bend ISD makes bond-related technology advances
Work is progressing on District-wide technology upgrades that were included in the November 2014 Bond. Tremendous accomplishments have been achieved over the summer and during first semester by the Information Technology Division, not only for the Bond Projects, but for overall improvement of the District’s technology capabilities.
Upgrading a single campus involves our own internal Technology team, multiple vendors and precise scheduling. New electrical circuits are required to support the new network equipment being. New fiber cables must be laid between the campus’ main IT room and the satellite IT closets.
New network cabling must be laid to support all of the new Wireless Access Points (WAPs) in each classroom and all of the new network based security cameras.
Then the WAPs and cameras must be mounted and brought online to the network. By Winter Break, we will have completed High School Phases I & II, with Phase III slated to be complete by late March. Middle Schools will be next on the list, followed by elementary schools. Full wi-fi deployment is expected to be complete in the spring of 2018.
