A team of Fort Bend ISD Title I Social Workers have been invited to present a session during the 23rd Annual Texas School Social Workers Conference, which will take place February 26-28 in Austin. The conference is designed to give school-based social service providers the skills, strategies and technologies needed for school social work practice in the year 2014 and beyond.
Title I Social Workers Priti Avantsa, Regina Garza, LaSonya McArthur, Sara Stansbury and Check and Connect Monitor Kristie Valdez will present the FBISD Title I Transition Programs during the conference before an audience of statewide social workers, school psychologists, administrators and other professionals in youth and family services.
They will share best practices gained from implementing such programs as TOMS (Transitioning On to Middle School), MOUTHS (Moving On Up To High School), TUTS (Transitioning Up To Success) and the Check and Connect Program, which ensure smooth student transition from one academic level to another. They will also stress the importance of forming positive partnerships with school staff.
The social workers work closely with Parent Resource Center Coordinators and other staff at Title I campuses to guide and support parents and students during transition.
