Fort Bend Theatre was honored to be named as a beneficiary of the Fort Bend Junior Service League’s record-breaking 2011 Sugar Plum Market. The $10,000 grant was awarded to Executive Artistic Director, Tarra McCain and Fort Bend Theatre Chairman, Ailene Elkins during the Fort Bend Junior Service League’s Encore Party in December.

The generous grant will help fund fifteen performances throughout Sugar Land schools as part of Fort Bend Theatre’s traveling educational programming. “We at Fort Bend Theatre appreciate Fort Bend Junior Service League’s outstanding commitment to nonprofits serving the community. With this award we should be able to reach over 5,000 Sugar Land youth with education and enrichment through the arts,” stated Executive Artistic Director Tarra McCain. “We are so grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of their generosity.”

When asked why Fort Bend Theatre was selected from the many applicants who applied, Fort Bend Junior Service President Catherine Kubala replied, “Fort Bend Junior Service League is proud to support the efforts of Fort Bend Theatre through proceeds raised from the 2011 Sugar Plum Market. We are excited to provide funds to bring traveling shows to students in low-income Fort Bend schools.”
