This past summer, the FSMS Band competed in the Texas Music Educators’ Association Honor Band Competition against other middle school bands throughout the State of Texas. Those competing had to go through two elimination rounds before reaching the State level of the competition. At each level, a panel of five judges listened to each band’s recording before ranking the groups.
In the elimination rounds, the top two bands from each region level advanced to the area level and then the top two bands from the area level were then advanced to the state level. At both the regional and area level, the FSMS Band placed first, which allowed them to advance to the state level where they competed against the top14 middle school bands in the state.
After the competition, it was announced that the FSMS Band was awarded 2nd place in the State of Texas. On Monday, September 12th, the FSMS Band was recognized at the FBISD School Board meeting for their accomplishment. This marks the fourth time that the FSMS Band has advanced to the state level, placing 8th, 7th, 3rd and 2nd in the state. Congratulations to all the FSMS Band students, past and present, for this outstanding accomplishment.
