The Foster High School Performing Arts Program will present “Li’l Abner,” a fun-filled, foot-stompin’ musical taken directly from the comics of Al Capp. This show is laced with gentle satire, rib-tickling humor and brash, catchy tunes like If I Had My Druthers, Jubilation T. Cornpone and The Country’s in the Very Best of Hands that will keep you laughing.
This upbeat musical extravaganza won two Tony Awards during its stint on Broadway in the 1950’s and features Al Capp’s beloved cartoon world of “Dogpatch, U.S.A!” A place where catching a husband in the annual Sadie Hawkins Day Race is a way of life. This show has a satisfying mixture of hillbilly nonsense with sharp, critical humor that appeals to the sophisticated theatergoer as well as the child within us all.
The show begins when a calm day down at the fishing hole is interrupted for Abner and his friends when a Cornpone Meetin’ is called in the town square. This can only mean one thing for the citizens of the town: there’s about to be a change in the Dogpatch way of life.
Bring your family and friends to be entertained by fun characters such as Marryin’ Sam, Earthquake McGoon, Daisy Mae, Mammy Yokum and of course, Li’l Abner.
Come and experience the magic of this musical comedy classic for yourself.
