The community of Fulbrook in Fulshear, will host its 12th annual Spring Concert Series each Friday night in April from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning April 6, 2012 at the Fulbrook Gazebo near the community’s vineyard. The free concert series features a mix of live music ranging from “swingadelic” vintage jazz rock to the classic hits of the ‘70s and ‘80s, and from polka dance tunes to a Texas capital jazz/folk/pop/rock fusion band that strives to “Keep Austin Weird.”
Concerts on April 6, 20 and 27 will be held at the Fulbrook Gazebo, 5530 Fulbrook Green in Fulshear. The April 13th will be held outside by The Lodge at Fulshear Creek Crossing, 5005 Sugarberry Crescent, a neighboring community in Fulshear.
The Fulbrook Concert Series, sponsored by DHK Development, developer of Fulbrook & Fulshear Creek Crossing, has been a popular Fulbrook family-friendly tradition for 11 years drawing nearly 500 residents and visitors to the series in previous years. DHK President Doug Konopka encourages guests of all ages to bring blankets, chairs, picnic items and beverages on and spread out the lawn, making sure to leave a little dance room, as they enjoy the concerts.
Fri., April 6, 7 – 9 p.m., Jitterbug Vipers, Fulbrook Gazebo
Austin musicians Jitterbug Vipers (www.jitterbugvipers.com), the self –described “only trippy-swingadelic 1930s rock band on Planet Earth,” kick off the series 7 p.m. April 6 at the Fulbrook Gazebo. The jitterbug, viper, swing show band plays sultry and danceable music influenced by Billie Holliday, Charlie Christian and Count Basie’s rhythm section and the ‘30s & ‘40s Viper scene. Vocalist Sarah Sharp won the 2008-2009 Austin Music Award for Best Performing Jazz Band. The Jitterbug Vipers were voted The Best Lindy Hop Band of 2008 in Austin.
Fri., April 13, 7 – 9 p.m., Marilyn Rucker & Friends, The Lodge at Fulshear Creek Crossing
Mid-series on the infamous Friday the 13th, the concert changes venue to the neighboring vineyard community of Fulshear Creek Crossing for a “Keep Austin Weird” style of jazz/folk/pop/rock fusion. Marilyn Rucker & Friends (www.marilynrucker.com) will perform their funny, folksy oddball tunes, some of which have landed on television situation comedies and zombie movies. “Marilyn’s style is much like Bette Midler in the early days,” notes Konopka. “In addition to being a talented musician, she is very entertaining as she interacts with the audience.”
Fri., April 20, 7 – 9 p.m., Texas Legacy Czech Band, Fulbrook Gazebo
The Texas Legacy Czech Band www.bettygoparty.com/Texas_Legacy.html), a popular band from last year’s series that inspired guests to dance on the lawn, will play on April 20. The band plays and sings to polka, waltz, two-step, swing, a little Latin and some Cajun music too.
Fri., April 27, 7 – 9 p.m., Crosswind, Fulbrook Gazebo
Fulbrook Concert Series favorite Crosswind (www.crosswindlive.com) will return by popular demand to the Fulbrook Gazebo for the final concert of the series to play classic hits from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Composed of former members of several long running Houston area bands, Crosswind’s live show offers something for everyone with its mix of classic rock, blues, R&B and country music classics.
