Fresno man arrested at hospital and charged with kidnapping

Last Thursday morning a Fresno man was arrested and charged with kidnapping after an incident in northeast Fort Bend County.

According to Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel, Kristopher O’Neal, 31, was arrested at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Medical Center as the result of kidnapping at a convenience store in the 9000 block of Highway 6 South near Bissonnet. Haenel said, “A couple had stopped at the store at about 3:30 a.m.” While the couple was stopped at the store, the man went inside to pay for gas. During the time he was in the store, another patron walked into the store and said that a woman had just been pulled out of a car and forced into another vehicle. When the gas paying patron looked outside, he realized it was his date.

The man got into his own vehicle and began to search for his abducted companion, said Haenel. While searching, the man came across a sheriff’s deputy, informed him of the incident and asked for help. Haenel said, “After a short investigation, deputies learned O’Neal was a former boyfriend of the woman whom had been abducted.” Later, deputies learned that the woman at the center of the incident had been transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Medical Center for injuries she sustained. Haenel was not clear about when, how, or what injuries the woman sustained during the abduction or afterward.

O’Neal was taken into custody at the hospital. Haenel said, “How the woman was injured has yet to be determined, but she remains in the hospital in Houston.”

At press time O’Neal had bonded out of jail.
