George Holmes, a Richmond resident and cancer survivor, wearing a Prostate Cancer Awareness shirt, completed the 26 mile route in support of the FBISD Education Foundation on March 26, 2011.
Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer at age 56, Holmes underwent radical prostatectomy approximately three years ago. Holmes said he took up biking as a way to visibly demonstrate there is “GOOD LIFE” after prostate cancer and surgery.
Holmes says he is a living example of how early detection of prostate cancer is the key to winning the battle. Should surgery be recommended or required it should not be feared, suggesting we can be “Cancer Victims” or “CANCER VICTORS.” He intends to live as a VICTOR, and hopes to continue biking as a means of increasing Prostate Cancer Awareness.
