The City of Rosenberg is proud to join the Downtown Merchants of Rosenberg (DMOR) to announce the third “Summer Fun in Historic Downtown Rosenberg” event of 2011. Round up the herd and head on down to Historic Downtown Rosenberg for the first ever “Rosenberg Round Up” featuring Texas Wild, along with the Brazos River Pickers! There will be a live longhorn for pictures, and attendees can enjoy a watermelon seed spitting contest (participants welcome – interested parties are invited to stop by the Downtown Merchants booth on the 20th to sign up for the contest).
A cowboy from the George Ranch Historical Park will be on hand to tell tales of local history and the George Ranch, and give roping demonstrations. The Southwest Dairy Farmers will have their mobile dairy classroom on site, featuring a traveling milking parlor, live cow and oral presentations by trained demonstrators for kids to learn about dairy farming in an outdoor classroom format.
Additionally, the Blue Ribbon 4H club will represent Fort Bend County 4-H, talented musicians from Mrs. Turner’s Music School will entertain crowds, and the Art League of Fort Bend will participate with a display of their work. The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist Program will have an interactive nature exhibit.
“Summer Fun in Historic Downtown Rosenberg” events occur the third Saturday of each month in Rosenberg’s Historic Downtown District from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are designed to showcase Downtown and help celebrate Rosenberg’s heritage while providing free, family-friendly activities and entertainment throughout the day.
Downtown merchants are coordinating the events to raise awareness of the diversity of shops and goods available in Downtown Rosenberg and will be open for business with specials running all day long. The final “Summer Fun” event is September 17, “Hispanic Heritage Day,” and is being planned with the generous support of the Fort Bend Hispanic Heritage Forum.
Mark your calendars for a “Summer Fun” series you don’t want to miss – every third Saturday from June through September. Bring your family and friends, and don’t forget your dancing shoes! Come down and spend time exploring Historic Downtown Rosenberg, and everything it has to offer. For more information, please visit www.RosenbergEvents.com, www.ShopRosenberg.net, or call 832-595-3520.
