The Junior Girl Scouts Troop 19279 planted the seeds towards their goals to obtain a Bronze Award this year, by dedicating efforts to brightening the lives of the elderly in the community. The project included the beautification of The Hampton at Meadows Place – Brookdale Senior Living located at 11919 West Airport, Stafford, on April 7, and also for a neighborly senior citizen residing in Richmond, Texas, Mrs. Knolle, on April 21.
The girls selected an assortment of red, orange, yellow, white, pink, and purple marigolds and petunias funded by cookie sales to donate to both gardens. Along with potting the plants at the center and in the Mrs. Knolle’s backyard, the girls also spent time enjoying a day full of joyful smiles, exchanging stories and jokes with their elders. “Helping Mrs. Knolle feels like I truly did a good deed in the community” stated Jasmine Azufra.
Activities Coordinator, Ms. Diane Starr, and Dan “the Man” Villarreal, Community Relations Coordinator, provided a special pizza party for their hard work. Ms. Starr commented on their service, “Way to go girls. Your caring and the beautiful flowers have really lifted our residents’ spirit!” “It was fun and it felt good to be helping,” Areej Munir said with a big smile.
