The Global Studies Academy at Clements High School is dedicated to promoting global citizenship by focusing on languages, culture, and current events. This year, the academy is hosting a Global Issues Summit to raise awareness about topics of international concern. The Global Studies Academy students are spearheading this event in conjunction with our coordinator, Anne Beckman, and Clements High School.
The following are topics they will be focusing on:
Refugee Resettlement; Child Soldiers; Literacy; Malnutrition; Extreme Poverty;
Immigration; Disaster Relief; Gender Rights/Gender Inequality; Human Trafficking;
Discrimination; and Torture Victims.
This year they will feature the works of American Red Cross, World Affairs Council, UNICEF, Tahirih Justice Center, and many other great organizations.
The event is separated into segments with guest speakers from the community and international organizations. They will address issues faced around the world and how individuals can help alleviate these problems. There will also be a portion of the program dedicated to success stories. Afterwards, there will be booths set up representing various organizations where guests can learn more. Refreshments will be provided in between sessions.
The Global Issues Summit will be held Saturday, April 20, 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Clements High School Auditorium, 4200 Elkins Drive, Sugar Land.
Admission is free and all community members are invited.
