Greatwood boy victim of family dog attack

August 22, 2012 by FortBendStar

An 11 year old Greatwood boy was the most recent dog attack victim in Fort Bend County.

At about 4:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 1500 block of Hillside Forest Drive in the Greatwood neighborhood to investigate a dog attack. According to Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel the dog was a family pet.

The victim had been playing with the dog in the family’s living room when the attack occurred. As the result of the attack the youngster suffered wounds to his head. Initially he was treated by Sugar Land Fire Department and Fort Bend EMS.

He was later transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Medical Center, said Haenel. At press time there was no further information available on the boy’s condition or what was done with the dog.

The dog was identified as a Boerboel, a South African mastiff breed and weighs about 170 pounds.
